Of all the people involved with your reception, your D.J. is the one person who can
make or brake it. If your D.J. is unassuming and laid back your reception will probably be
a slow quiet affair. If he or she is enthusiastic your reception will probably be up beat
and exciting. Your D.J. will probably set the tone for your reception.
The very best method of selecting your D.J. is to see them in action at an actual
reception. The music should keep the participants and guests in a festive mood. This
should be accomplished mainly by the timing and selections of the music not by the D.J.
bring attention upon himself, although it would be preferable for him to also have a good
personality.
Your D.J. should be professional, courteous, and personable. If your reception is at a
restaurant or hotel banquet hall your D.J. will probably be working hand in hand with the
reception hostess in regards to the itinerary of the reception. Meet with your D.J. to
discuss when certain events will take place: e.i., the toast, first dance, cake cutting,
bouquet and garter toss, etc. If this particular D.J. is vague as to when these events
will occur it might be a hint of not knowing and that could translate into a dull
reception.
Get recommendations from friends, but by all means see them in action.
