Engagement and Announcement
You are engaged the moment you decide to marry. The first people you should notify is your parents and you should do it in person. Close relatives and friends can be informed by note or phone. You might consider an engagement party as an ideal way of telling relatives and friends of the happy news. Once your relatives and friends are notified, you might consider a formal announcement of your engagement in your local newspaper and in both sets of parents' hometown newspapers. You may include a photograph in some papers. City newspapers don't give much space to these announcements. Some papers have special forms to fill out for announcements. Check your papers and see if they have their own forms. Be sure the name of the bride and the date for release is on al I sheets.
